Interaction of butenes with the surface of an NiO-Al2O3/SiO2 catalyst
has been studied by electron paramagnetic resonance. It was found that
Ni+ ions situated at the surface exhibit D3h symmetry and form Ni+-bu
tene complexes. The presence of Al2O3 led to the interaction of butene
s with Al3+ Lewis acid centres. The occupancy of both kinds of adsorpt
ion centres changes with temperature and pressure.
