This paper presents the traveling-wave free-electron maser (TWFEM) exp
eriment conducted at Tel Aviv University. The TWFEM [E. Jerby, Phys. R
ev. Res. A44 (1991) 703] is a synergism of the traveling-wave tube (TW
T) and the free-electron maser (FEM). It incorporates both a periodic
waveguide and a wiggler. The slow-wave TWFEM interaction requires rela
tively low electron beam energy (10 keV in our experiment), The paper
describes the TWFEM principle and its experimental implementation.
