A double rf system is installed in order to suppress a longitudinal co
upled bunch instability by Landau damping for the free electron laser
experiment in the ETL storage ring TERAS. Coherent instabilities of th
e stored electron beam have been reduced by exploiting a Landau cavity
with the second harmonic of the accelerating frequency 171.62 MHz. Th
e significant improvement in the electron beam quality contributes to
the success in the first lasing of visible FEL at TERAS.
