Abstract
The solenoidal guide field of Raman free electron lasers can be tuned to resonantly enhance a desired harmonic component of the electron qui ver velocity. The feasibility of a harmonic FEL based on this effect i s investigated. Computer simulations demonstrate that the gain and eff iciency of the second harmonic generation can be comparable to that of the fundamental generation.
