Abstract
The propagation properties of electron beams have been studied on undu
lators consisting of parabolic-shaped magnets and of alternately shift
ed magnets; this is the succession of work on undulators having circul
arly curved magnets or trapezoid/rhomboid shaped magnets. The gain of
the FEL was also estimated for these geometrically focusing undulators
by a one dimensional simulation code. It was found that for the circu
larly or parabolically curved undulator an electron beam propagating w
ith a large divergence has a small gain, both positive and negative, d
ue to the large amplitude deviation of the magnetic field of the undul
ator.
