A description of a plane hybrid undulator contruction is presented. Th
e undulator KIAE-6 consists of five sections each containing ten perio
ds. The period length is 60 mm. SMCo5 permanent magnets are used as a
magnetic flux source. The mechanical construction provides high accura
cy of magnetic field periodicity (20 mum deviation limit). The gap has
a vertical space orientation thus simplifying the problem of the gap
distance change. The plane mechanical platforms supporting the undulat
or sections have a special transmission for varying the gap in the ran
ge from 15 to 45 mm. It means that the undulator field strength parame
ter K can be easily changed within the range 0.5-2.6. A set of adjusti
ng screws provides the possibility to accurately tune the magnetic fie
ld amplitudes. The experimental results of the magnetic field measurem
ents are presented, showing that the field amplitude spread is less th
an 0.25%.
