Jv. Christiansen et al., FLASH PYROLYSIS OF COAL SUB-STRUCTURES - A MECHANISTIC AND KINETIC EVALUATION, Journal of analytical and applied pyrolysis, 25, 1993, pp. 229-242
The pyrolytic reactions of benzoic acid have been studied at three tem
peratures in the range from 800 to 1300 K utilizing the carbosieve tec
hnique, i.e. by pyrolysis of benzoic acid-loaded carbosieve. The initi
al organic products originating from benzoic acid are benzene and phen
yl radicals, the eventual major reaction products being benzene and bi
phenyl. The reaction scheme was rationalized and quantified based on t
he application of stable isotope techniques in combination with theore
tical reaction modelling, thus displaying the ''hidden reaction paths'
'. The kinetics of the initial reactions are discussed.
