E. Rotheiler et al., SELF-REPORTED CORONARY-PRONE BEHAVIOR - A REPLICATED COMPARISON BETWEEN EAST-GERMAN (GDR) AND SCOTTISH STUDENTS, Personality and individual differences, 15(2), 1993, pp. 155-161
The aim was to compare self-reported coronary-prone behaviours of GDR
and Scottish students. ''Type A'' behaviour was assessed in university
student groups from Dresden and Glasgow, using the FABA questionnaire
. Two separate studies were conducted on matched sets of Dresden and G
lasgow university students: (a) males and females together and (b) fem
ales only. With both (a) and (b), comparisons were made of ''Type A''
factor structures and derived scale means. The original 44-item FABA w
as applied to the mixed-sex groups, while a 22-item form of FABA (prev
iously devised to maximize factor stability and eliminate response bia
s) was applied to the female groups. Group number ranged from 153 to 2
88. Principal Components and Varimax analyses revealed cross-culturall
y stable factors: Work Involvement (WI), Reactive Uncontrol (RU) and D
ominance (D). Compared to Glasgow students, Dresden students showed gr
eater WI (P < 0.001) and lower RU (P < 0.001). No group differences oc
curred in D.
