An efficient, copper-based catalyst has been discovered that oxidizes
a wide range of alcohols into aldehydes and ketones under mild conditi
ons. This catalytic system utilizes oxygen or air as the ultimate, sto
ichiometric oxidant, producing water as the only by-product.
