A closure approximation for the one-dimensional kinetic lattice gas mo
del is formulated to truncate the hierarchy of equations of motion for
correlation functions. Essentially exact results are obtained both fo
r the equilibrium properties and the time evolution of the adsorbate w
hen up to five-site correlation functions are included. Implications f
or thermal desorption in systems with slow and fast diffusion are stud
ied for nearest-neighbor interactions.
