M. Corujeira et al., PHYSIOPATHOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL PATHOLOGY CHARACTERIZATION OF THE DIGESTIVE DISORDERS OF THE EQUINE ATHLETE, Journal of equine veterinary science, 13(2), 1993, pp. 99-103
The physiopathologic and pathologic clinic, characterization of the di
gestive disorders in athletic horses were researched in a project spon
sored by Buenos Aires University, and the Science and Technology Secre
tariat. This project, now underway, is composed of a series of studies
on the diagnostics, physiopathologic and clinical evaluations of dige
stive diseases. The present paper summarizes two parts of the studies.
Part 1: ''Valoration of Digestive Function Efficacy in horses: Sterco
gram,'' describes the reference values of the stercogram in 300 fecal
samples in adult, athletic horses on maintenance diets. Part II: The p
urpose of this study has been the diagnostic evaluation of the o-tolui
dine, Benzidine and Thevenon and Rolland tests to identify occult bloo
d in the feces of 147 healthy, adult horses and 50 horses suspected of
digestive hemorrhage.
