Abstract
The liquid steel, in contact with the atmosphere during the casting, w ill pick-up oxygen and nitrogen; its cleanliness will be spoiled. It h appens particularly on unsteady states such as ladle change or casting start. Completely closed tundishes previously argon flushed reduce th is risk. Tests have been performed at Dillingen to study results and c onditions of the technology.
