Abstract
A new system has been developed to improve the thickness accuracy of s teel strip in an unsteady state (i.e. changing rolling velocity). This system, based on the principle of the observer, can estimate fluctuat ions in the rolling characteristics quantitatively, and oppose them ro bustly. Applied in a reverse cold rolling mill at Kakogawa Works, the system has reduced the off-gauge length to less than about 50 %.
