Abstract
The effect of hot working ratio (between 3.5 and 110) and surface cond itions (as-rolled and after shot peening) on the fatigue strength of a spring steel 50 CrV 4 has been investigated. The fatigue bending resu lts show, on the one hand, no significant effect of the hot working ra tio on fatigue strength and, on the other hand, the beneficial effect of shot peening which improves the fatigue strength more than 70 %.
