We present a method for the direct correlation of quantitative changes
in lactate concentration and intracellular pH during global ischemia
in the perfused rat heart using rapidly interleaved P-31 MRS and water
-suppressed H-1 MRS acquisitions. The ischemic myocardial buffering ca
pacity was determined and found to be consistent with previous experim
entation.
