Abstract
Since the 1960s the pattern of population change in New South Wales ha s contained a marked growth in coastal regions. This is attributable t o residential migration and to employment generated mainly by the expa nsion of tourism. In explaining the change it is suggested that an app ropriate framework exists in the concept of counterurbanization. A dis cussion of the concept is followed by a description of trends in New S outh Wales.
