F. Balestra et al., FORMATION OF HYPERFRAGMENTS IN ANNIHILATION OF STOPPED ANTIPROTONS ONPHOTOEMULSION NUCLEI, Physics of atomic nuclei, 56(5), 1993, pp. 576-581
For the first time, events of formation, emission, and mesonic decay o
f light hyperfragments LAMBDA/3 H and LAMBDA/4 H in annihilation of st
opped antiprotons on nuclear-photoemulsion nuclei C, N, O, and S have
been detected. It is established that a lower bound on the probability
of formation of the hyperfragments LAMBDA/3 H and LAMBDA/4 H per anti
proton stopped in the photoemulsion is (6.1 +/- 3.5) . 10(-4). It is s
hown that the most probable mechanism of creation of hyperfragments is
charge exchange of the K- mesons formed in annihilation on the nucleo
ns of the residual nucleus.
