Am. Loipfuhrer et al., CONCENTRATION OF FREE CALCIUM IN ERYTHROCYTES OF LEAD-DEPLETED RATS, Journal of trace elements and electrolytes in health and disease, 7(1), 1993, pp. 37-40
The concentration of Ca2+-ions in erythrocytes of lead-depleted rats w
as estimated using the fluorescent Ca2+-indicator fura-2. The lead-dep
leted animals of the F1 generation showed an elevated Ca2+-concentrati
on, whereas in the P(o) generation there was no difference in the Ca2-concentration between depletion and control group. The elevation of C
a2+-ion concentration of lead-depleted rats could be caused by a reduc
tion in Ca-Mg-ATPase activity in lead-depletion and could possibly lea
d to a decreased mean corpuscular volume (MCV) of erythrocytes.
