Mc. Ray et al., EXACT SOLUTION FOR STATIC ANALYSIS OF AN INTELLIGENT STRUCTURE UNDER CYLINDRICAL BENDING, Computers & structures, 47(6), 1993, pp. 1031-1042
An exact static analysis of a simply supported intelligent structure u
nder cylindrical bending is presented. The performance of the actuator
layer of the intelligent structure to cause induced axial and transve
rse stresses in the substrate layer is investigated. The capability of
the sensor layer to sense the deformations of the structure is shown
in terms of induced electric potential on its surface. The distributio
n of electric potential across the thickness of the piezoelectric sens
or and actuator implies that the linear variation can be adopted for c
hoosing the electric potential function to model the laminated intelli
gent structure of complicated geometry and boundary conditions with re
fined approximate technique. The results presented here will be helpfu
l to obtain correlation between theoretical and experimental results a
nd to numerical analysts to verify their results.
