Abstract
Distant, i.e, without immediate contact and not mediated by chemicals, interactions between bacterial cells were observed. Dying cultures of Vibrio costicola (treated with chloramphenicol) accelerated the growt h of another culture of the same species. An experimental system suita ble for studying information transmission between live cells by means of physical fields.
