The risk to the Bulgarian population due to hot particles released dur
ing the Chernobyl accident is estimated. The investigation includes da
ta on distribution of hot particles in air, nuclide content in standar
d UO2 hot particles, specific activity, dimensions and specific densit
y. The risk model employed includes linear and quadratic effects and a
lso stimulated cell division. Where uncertainties exist, the calculati
ons were performed in the direction of overestimation of the risk.
