Abstract
Graphic symbols are increasingly used for the efficient and language-i ndependent sharing of information in practically all fields of life. T he design of such symbols makes special demands on their obviousness, particularity, independence and unambiguity. This article discusses a procedure for the drafting of graphic symbols for the description of l ight-metal extrusion defects. The pictograms thus obtained are used as a visual support of the users of an expert system which is currently being developed for the analysis of extrusion defects. They can also b e used for different internal and external purposes of the user's work s.
