Cerebral inputs to the dentate nucleus were examined by recording intr
acellular potentials from dentate output neurons in the cat. These neu
rons were found to receive excitatory inputs mainly from area 6 via th
e contralateral pontine nucleus (PN), nucleus reticularis tegmenti pon
tis (NRTP) and inferior olive. Intracellular staining with horseradish
peroxidase gave the morphological evidence that some PN and NRTP neur
ons gave axon collaterals to the dentate nucleus before terminating in
the granular layer of the cerebellar cortex as typical mossy fiber ro
settes.
