Abstract
Many older emergency and standby power systems are now being updated. This paper discusses what should be considered when expanding and upda ting transfer switching equipment. It also discusses the need for prop er isolation between normal and emergency sources for new installation s. Factors to consider include code conformance, reliable operation, e conomics, adequate ground-fault protection, adequate withstand fault c urrent rating, and human safety.
