Abstract
The American oyster (Crassostrea virginica) forms the basis for one of Louisiana's most valuable shellfisheries. Most of the state's product ion is derived from private leases equalling more than 300 thousand ac res. Since 1987, the state has annually auctioned those leases in arre ars for nonpayment of annual rental fees. This paper provides an analy sis and related discussion of the auction data for the 1987-92 period.
