Pseudorabiesvirus (PRV) growth factor (PRGF), which transforms normal
and represses the transformed phenotype of transformed cells, is norma
lly produced in PRV infected cells fed with glucose. So prepared PRGF
consist of two components (PRGF(A), PRGF(B)). The replacement of gluco
se by other monosaccharides leads to three outcomes: 1. Production of
normal, fully functional PRGF; 2. production of PRGF with the one-comp
onent character, retaining transforming and devoid of transformation r
epressing activity; 3. complete inhibition of PRGF production. Further
more, the production of PRGF was shown to depend on the presence of Ca
2+ ions, however, it was not influenced by Mg2+ ions.
