Abstract
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been used to image the surface struc ture of a CuCl2-graphite intercalation compound. We have obtained the first AFM image of CuCl2 molecules on a CuCl2-GIC surface with an atom ic resolution in air at room temperature, which shows an incommensurat e superlattice structure (a = 0.39 nm) having a close resemblance to t he bulk of this compound.
