T. Constantinescu et al., SYRINGALDEHYDE PRODUCTION AND ITS CHROMATOGRAPHIC DETERMINATION FROM AN NATURAL EXTRACT, Revista de chimie, 44(6), 1993, pp. 530-535
We obtain SYRINGALDEHYDE (>99%) by using a deviated Duff's formylation
in the presence of hexamethylenetetramine in acetic and sulphuric aci
d medium (50%)g/g), heated at 90-100-degrees-C for about 3h. and start
ing from 2,6-DMF (pyrogallol-1,3-dimethyl ether) isolated from wood ta
r. The yield was about 70%. In this formylation process no other isome
rs were identified. Analysis conditions have been mentioned by thin la
yer and gaschromatography (also coupling with mass spectrometry) which
permits the determination of some aldehydes with aromatic structure (
VANILLIN, SYNAPALDEHYDE, SYRINGALDEHYDE) from natural oak(Quercus) woo
d extract.
