Nipping technology is currently the primary choice for fabrication of
the ITER nuclear fusion project first wall and blanket system. In othe
r applications it has been shown that hipping from powder offers a goo
d alternative to conventional production routes for the manufacture of
compiler components with integral cooling galleries. As part of a com
prehensive test programme, steel blocks with cooling channels and comp
ound materials consisting of steel plus various copper alloys have bee
n produced.
