The design of an improved acoustic-plate-mode (APM) biosensor is prese
nted. The biosensing element consists of a pair of APM delay lines fab
ricated on an ZX lithium niobate (LiNbO3) substrate. Each delay line u
tilizes a single APM and exhibits adjacent-mode rejection superior to
previous LiNbO3 designs, without sacrificing the high sensitivity to e
lectrical effects. The biosensing element is evaluated as an immunosen
sor using the vector voltmeter (VVM) measurement system. The results s
how that the improved biosensor is capable of selectively detecting an
tibody concentrations of 20 ng per ml.
