Let G(z1, z2) be ap x m 2D proper rational transfer matrix, with full
column rank, and SIGMA = (A1, A2, B1, B2, C, D) a state-space realizat
ion of its. Necessary and sufficient conditions are presented in this
paper, which guarantee that (i) G(z1, z2) admits polynomial left inver
ses, (ii) such polynomial inverses are transfer matrices of some inver
se system of SIGMA. When the above conditions are not fulfilled. the e
xistence of stable and/or proper possibly delayed, inverses of G(z1, z
2), is also discussed.
