Abstract
Spatial and dynamic structure of cold lens is studied with moored curr ent meters and hydrologic data of ''Megapolydon''. It is shown that th e lens radius was equal to 20 km and the radius of the lens core rotat ing anticyclonically with angular velocity equal to a half of the Cori olis parameter was 10 km. Orbital velocity maximum was registered at t he core boundary. It was equal to 30 cm/s. Lens center was located at 1360 m depth and its upper boundary at 300 m. Maximum anomalies of tem perature, salinity and density were 0.5-degrees-C, 0.05 parts per thou sand and 0.05 kg/m3 respectively. It is also shown that lens dynamics is well described by the cyclostrophic equation (1). The estimates of integral lens characteristics are compared with the lens observed in 1 985 at ''Mesopolygon''. The hypothesis of lens origin during winter de ep convection is suggested.
