A new tracing technique is described for rays joining a source and rec
eiver in the propagation of sound in a coastal wedge with an intricate
bottom relief where the sound velocity depends only on the depth. It
is established that a significant gam in computing speed can be achiev
ed by concentrating the receivers in a limited region of space. Exampl
es of calculations are discussed.
