Kj. Fridley et Rc. Tang, MODELING 3-DIMENSIONAL DISTORTION OF WOOD DUE TO ANISOTROPIC SHRINKAGE, Mathematical and computer modelling, 17(9), 1993, pp. 23-30
The three-dimensional distortion (warp) of wood due to anisotropic shr
inkage is predicted by using an iterative computer program and a two-d
imensional model for shrinkage. A previously determined analytical mod
el which predicted the distorted cross-sectional shapes of lumber due
to an anisotropic shrinkage was used iteratively to predict three-dime
nsional distortions. An iterative procedure was used so that any log o
r grain characteristics, such as sawing logs with sweep or diagonal gr
ain patterns, could be investigated. Several numerical examples are pr
esented to illustrate the effects of various parameters on the warping
of lumber.
