SYNTHESIS AND RESOLUTION OF BIS-(BENZIMIDAZOL-1-L)METHANES AND TRIS-(BENZIMIDAZOL-1-YL)METHANES

Bis- and tris-(benzimidazol-1-yl)methane deriva-tives are reported wit h different substituents at position 2 of the benzimidazole ring. When the substituents are large enough, these compounds, even the bis-deri vatives, can be resolved using hplc on CHIRALPAK OT(+) columns. For so me compounds, the racemization barriers have been measured and their s teric origin ascertained (DELTAG(double dagger) = a + b MR, MR being t he molar refractivity).
