Abstract
The problem of large scale (d/L much less than 1, where d is the dimen sion of the body and L is the integral length scale of turbulence) thr ee dimensional turbulence approaching an arbitrary two dimensional bod y is analysed following Hunt's (1973) theory. The analysis, based on R apid Distortion Theory, incorporates both blocking and weak distortion of the velocity field caused by the obstacle. Besides obvious enginee ring applications, the solution illustrates the application of RDT for inhomogeneous turbulence problems.
