Abstract
The 'vascular' aetiology of headache is questioned. An alternative hyp othesis based on sensitisation of sensory nerve endings by neurogenic plasma extravasation is discussed. The development of drugs which sele ctively inhibit the release of vasoactive neuropeptides from perivascu lar sensory nerves may benefit patients with head pain from a variety of causes.
