SENECA is a hodoscope for recoil neutrons from photoreactions on nucle
i and nucleons in the photon energy range 50-900 MeV. It consists of 3
2 hexagonal scintillation detector modules in a honeycomb array. Diffe
rential detection efficiency spectra of a single module as well as the
cross-talk between neighbouring modules were measured at neutron ener
gies between 7 and 70 MeV. Neutron detection efficiencies were determi
ned in the same energy range with an average experimental uncertainty
of 7.6%. The experimental results agree with predictions from Monte Ca
rlo codes within the limits of the experimental error.
