Abstract
Selective demethylation of the zwitterion 9-Me2S-7,8-C2B9H11 by sodium naphthalenide in tetrahydrofuran led to the racemic 19-McS-7,8-C2B9H1 1]- ion. which could be partially resolved lo its (-)-enantiomer via t he [(-)-1-Ph-1-Me3N-CHCH3]+ salt. Complexation of the ions with Co2+ a nd C5H5- afforded the (+/-)- and (+)-4-MeS-3-C5H5-1,2,3-C2CoB9H10 coba ltacarboranes, respectively. A partially resolved (-)-9-Me2S-7,8-C2B9H 11 was obtained by re-methylation of the (-)-[9-MeS-7,8-C2B9H11]- ion.
