Abstract
Pregnant females are susceptible to intracellular pathogens and are bi ased towards humoral rather than cell-mediated immunity. Since T(H)1 c ytokines compromise pregnancy and T(H)2 cytokines are produced at the maternal-fetal interface, we hypothesize that these T(H)2 cytokines in hibit T(H)1 responses, improving fetal survival but impairing response s against some pathogens.
