Ea. Lalor et al., ALBERTA GASTROENTEROLOGISTS SYMPOSIUM - A DEBATE OF THE PROPOSAL THATPATIENTS WITH DUODENAL-ULCER IN 1992 SHOULD BE TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS, Canadian journal of gastroenterology, 7(4), 1993, pp. 359-363
It has become clear that Helicobacter pylori is associated with duoden
al ulcer disease and antral gastritis. Furthermore, it has been demons
trated that eradication of H pylori can, in some instances, reduce the
incidence of duodenal ulcer relapse. Nevertheless, the most appropria
te therapy, as well as its duration and frequency of administration, r
emain undetermined. Whether all patients with the organism, a subset o
r none should be treated remains a debatable question. This timely top
ic was debated by Dr Eoin A Lalor (protagonist) and Dr Noel Hershfield
(antagonist) at the Alberta Gastroenterologists Symposium from Novemb
er 1 to 3, 1991.
