Flow-vacuum pyrolysis of the title acetate 8 and alcohol 9 were follow
ed at 1 Torr and various temperatures between 350-degrees-C and 650-de
grees-C. The product distributions were found to be nearly parallel wi
th those from pyrolyses of isomeric endo- 5,10-ethano-5H-dibenzo[a,d]c
yclopten-11-yl-acetate (1) and respectively of its corresponding alcoh
ol 2. A reaction mechanism related to that of pyrolysis of 1 and 2 is
suggested for 8 and 9.
