It is possible to simulate geological media with the same porosity and
correlation function of the pore space as real ones. This method is i
llustrated by two- and three-dimensional examples and discussed. Then,
programs able to solve the local field equations in any geometry are
used to study various transport processes such as convection, diffusio
n and Taylor dispersion in these media whereby macroscopic quantities
such as permeability, formation factor and dispersion tensor are obtai
ned; the first two quantities are compared to experimental data in Fon
tainebleau sandstones.
