Abstract
Due to its polymicrobial origins and potential for causing infertility and ectopic pregnancy, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a particu larly challenging infection to treat. Treatment of mild PID has long b een standardized: a single dose of an IM antibiotic followed by oral t herapy. Patients with advanced PID requiring long-term therapy may be candidates for outpatient parenteral therapy.
