Abstract
HMOs can provide economical outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy t hat takes advantage of existing nursing and physician staff as well as centralized pharmacy services. Reimbursement problems are nonexistent . Treatment is possible in the home or clinic. In the model presented, the therapeutic program is initiated and supervised by infectious dis ease specialists.
