A phenomenological model for the dependence of the initial magnetic pe
rmeability mu on the magnetoelastic anisotropy constant K(sigma) in am
orphous ribbons is proposed, taking into account the wall energy and m
agnetostatic interaction between neighbouring domains. The basic hypot
hesis is that the magnetostatic interaction due to the inhomogeneity i
nherent to the amorphous state is dependent on the volumes and the ang
le between domain magnetizations of the adjacent domains. The model de
scribes both the correlations of the type mu is-proportional-to K(sigm
a)-1 for K(sigma) < 0, and of the type mu is-proportional-to K(sigma)-
1/2, or the presence of a knee followed by plateau for K(sigma) > 0.
