Recent national reports call for a reorganization of the teacher prepa
ration process through closer collaboration between basic and higher e
ducation. This article describes how a university supervisor of Spanis
h and a cooperating high school Spanish teacher participated in a one-
week exchange of professional duties for the purpose of understanding
each others roles more fully. The results of the exchange prompted the
redesign of the teacher preparation program to integrate the efforts
of the university and school district in the development of foreign la
nguage teachers.
