Abstract
The future development of our environment also depends very much on ou r success, in the long run, to come to grips with the problems associa ted with energy production, not only in this country, but in the whole of Europe and worldwide. For this purpose, a new starting point for i nternational cooperation was established at the 1992 UN Environmental Summit. The Climate Convention was signed by the German Federal Govern ment in late 1992. One of the most pressing problems in global environ mental protection is the danger posed by nuclear power plants in Centr al and Eastern Europe. International and German national support progr ams have already been launched to improve the situation. The solution to global environmental problems must incorporate a national energy co nsensus encompassing all sources of energy.
