Polyurethane elastomers possessing dangling chains were prepared by pa
rtial substitution of the multifunctional polyol with a monohydroxyl a
lcohol in the reaction with an isocyanate terminated prepolymer. The d
ynamic mechanical spectroscopy showed that created dangling segments r
esulted in a broader glass-transition region. This indicated material
with potentially good energy absorbing properties might be prepared fr
om a 'dangling polymer' system. (C) 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
