Abstract
The effects of toluene on the kinetics of polymerization of acrylonitr ile (AN) initiated by the Ce(IV)/sucrose redox system were studied in the presence of an emulsifier, N-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (NCTAB ) in the temperature range 35-45-degrees-C. The effects of concentrati on of metal ion, monomer, sulfuric acid, substrate (sucrose), emulsifi er, toluene, some inorganic salt, and organic solvent on R(p) have als o been investigated. The remarkable features of the investigation invo lve the derivation of the rate expression for the above system with th e calculation of activation energy. (C) 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
